Citizen Tenders FAQs

 

1. Who can participate in the Closed Tender?

         Only Citizen-Owned Companies (51% or more Botswana citizen shareholding) that are fully registered with ODC can participate.

2. Do I need to attend Viewing to participate in the Tender?

         Yes. You must attend Viewing to participate in the Tender unless you have previously attended a Viewing session at ODC.

3. Who is allowed to attend Viewing?

         Only Directors, Shareholders, Approved Rough Diamond Experts, and full-time employees of the registered company. A maximum of 2 non-diamond directors/shareholders may attend with an approved expert.

4. How do I place a bid in the Closed Tender?

  • Bids must be submitted electronically via the link provided.
  • All bid submissions must be sent to roughtenders@odc.co.bw.
  • Each Customer can only submit one bid per Lot.

5. When do I place my bids?

Bids must be submitted within the official Start and End Times of the Tender. Late submissions will not be accepted.

6. What is a Qualifying Bid?

A bid that is:

  • Equal to or above ODC’s Reserve Price, and
  • Within your financial commitment (proof of funds).

7. What happens if I submit multiple bids for the same Lot?

All your bids for that Lot will be disqualified. Only one bid per Lot is allowed.

8. What is a Reserve Price?

The minimum price ODC is willing to accept for a Lot. This is set by ODC but is not disclosed.

9. Can I win all the Lots I bid for?

Possibly, but not guaranteed. ODC may limit the number of Lots awarded to ensure fair distribution.

 

10. What is the maximum I can buy?

You may not be allocated more than 50% of all Lots on offer, regardless of your financial capacity.

11. Can I assign or transfer my invoice?

No. Invoices cannot be reassigned to third parties. Only the invoiced company may pay and receive the goods.

12. What happens if I do not pay on time?

Failure to pay within the 5-day window may result in cancellation of the allocation and potential disqualification from future tenders.

13. Will I pay VAT?

Yes, unless your company has a valid VAT Manufacturing Warehouse Certificate from BURS.
