Contract Sales FAQs

Contract  Sales FAQs

1. Can anyone apply for an ODC contract

Applications are open to all ODC customers who fulfil the minimum criteria outlined in the invitation to submit an Expression of Interest

2. How should a company apply?

Customers should follow the guidance provided in the invitation. Please reach out to contracts@odc.co.bw if you have questions

3. On which basis will customers be selected ?

Customers will be selected predominantly on their purchasing and bidding behaviours. ODC portfolio fit will be a consideration in the final stages.

4. Will there be an opportunity for citizen-owned companies to apply for a contract ?

Yes. A separate selection process will be applied for citizen-owned companies. Please reach out to contracts@odc.co.bw if you have questions

5. When will the results of the customer selection process be announced?

It is ODC’s intention to reach out to selected customers no later than September end

6. If more than one Customer Group  Entity meets the minimum  requirement for the expression of  interest, can each entity submit an  application? Or is it one  application per Group?

Please submit one application for each Group.

7. If we would like to apply for both a beneficiation and an international contract, do we need to submit two separate Expressions of Interest?

Each Group should submit a single Expression of Interest and it will cover your application for both International and Beneficiation contracts. Note that Beneficiation contracts will be available in 2-5Cts White Gem Z and 5-9Cts White Gem Z. If you meet the minimum purchasing requirement and are interested in receiving a contract in these materials, please tick the box next to these assortments. If you have also polished diamonds in Botswana in the January 2024 – July 2025 period, please indicate this by ticking the box in the ‘Acknowledgement’ section. From your responses to these questions, we will be able to determine that you are both interested in Beneficiation materials and that you have been polishing locally recently. On the same form you can express your interest in materials which will be made available for International contracts.

8. How will rough diamonds in the contract channel be priced?

Pricing will be reflective of the market.

9. How will you decide which company to give contracts to and for what type of goods?

A key design principle of the customer selection process is placing the right product into the right hands. Customer assessment will be undertaken by product area to ensure we select customers who demonstrate interest, capacity and competitiveness in each area of goods.

10. What will be the term of the contracts?

The first set of contracts will have a term of 2 years. Before we fully launch contracts, a subset of selected customers will participate in a pilot phase of 2-3 cycles.

11. How regular will contracts be?

Contract sales events will align with the auction cycle (10 cycles a year).

12. When will contract goods be allocated, before or after auctions?

Contract goods will be allocated before auctions.

13. In contracts, will it be possible to skip purchasing for a few months?

Some flexibilities will be provided. More details on the contract framework will be released once contracts are launched.

14. Is there any extra benefit for contract holders?

Contract supply will suit companies who would value a steady supply of rough materials from ODC.

15. Can a Citizen Beneficiation Contract holder undertake manufacturing through a contractor, or do they need to own their own factory?

In this application process, ODC will have three types of contracts, Citizen, Beneficiation and International. ODC will not be offering ‘Citizen-Beneficiation’ contracts and Citizen contract holders will not have conditions on how they utilise their contract supply. Therefore, Citizen contract holders may trade, contract polish or polish in-house at their discretion.

16. We are an India-based customer and have made qualifying purchases through third-party invoicing. How should we apply to ensure those qualifying purchases are considered?

We kindly ask you to contact our Sales team (contracts@odc.co.bw) for further instructions and guidance.

17. We do not meet one or several of the four key requirements mentioned in the EoI but we strongly believe in our ability to be an important ODC partner. Should we still apply?

Applicants who do not meet the key requirements outlined are unlikely to be selected as contract customers. That said, we want to emphasise the open nature of this application process. All ODC customers who strongly believe in their ability to become long term contract customers may submit an application, but please note that there will be significant competition and the minimum requirements have been developed to prevent applicants spending unnecessary time on a process, only to be disappointed.

18. Under Company Activities should we provide our financial data according to Calendar Year or Financial Year?

Please provide rough purchasing and turnover figures according to your financial reporting year. For example for FY 2024 the financial reporting year would typically be April 2024 – March 2025 or January 2024 – December 2024.

19. How do I express my rough product preferences on the Expression of Interest form?

In the ‘Product Interest’ part of the form, there is a table. In the last column of the form (‘Priority’) there are drop down boxes for you to populate your preferences. See image for reference.
