Spot Auctions FAQs

Spot Auctions FAQs

1. Who can participate in ODC Spot Auctions?

Only customers who have completed ODC’s registration process and received confirmation of approval may participate in Spot Auctions.

2. How often do Spot Auctions take place?

Spot Auctions are held 10 times per year and follow a fixed annual schedule published on the ODC website.

3. How do I get access to the auction platform?

Once registered and approved, you’ll be issued login credentials for the online platform: www.odcauctions.com.

4. What is the role of an Authorised Bidder?

An Authorised Bidder places bids on behalf of the registered customer. A maximum of two Authorised Bidders may be nominated per customer. They must complete mandatory training before participating.

5. What is Pre-Bidding?

Pre-Bidding is a 24-hour window before the auction starts where you can place initial bids. These bids carry through into Round 1.

6. Can I participate if I missed Round 1?

No. If you don’t bid in Round 1, you’re not allowed to place bids in later rounds.

7. What types of bids can I place?

  • Continue Bid: At or above the current price; keeps you in the auction.
  • Discontinue Bid: Below the current price; you may still win if others drop out (not allowed in Round 1).

8. Can I change my bids during the auction?

Yes, but only while a round is active. You can also move bids to other open Lots under certain conditions.

9. How are winners determined?

Winners are those with the highest Continue or Discontinue Bids at the close of a round, depending on the level of competition.

10. What happens if I tie with another bidder?

Tied bids are resolved randomly. To avoid this, use precise bid amounts (e.g., $244.17 instead of $244.00).

11. Can I use automatic (proxy) bids?

Yes. You can set Proxy Bids to automate bidding up to a maximum price, either during Pre-Bidding or active rounds.

12. What are Activity and Quantity Limits?

  • Activity Limit controls how many Lots you can bid on based on previous round participation.
  • Quantity Limit caps the total value of Lots you can bid on, based on Round 1 prices.

13. What if I have technical issues during the auction?

Contact the Auction Manager immediately. Backup bidding may be allowed by email, phone, or fax – but only before the round ends.

14. How can I view auction results?

Results are posted after each round. You can view won Lots, prices, and overall demand directly in the platform.

15. When do I receive my invoice?

Invoices are issued after the viewing process concludes, based on the final Lot weights.

16. Can I reassign my invoice to a group company?

Yes, within 24 hours after the auction ends, upon request.
