Registration FAQs

What is a PSDL and how do I obtain one?

A Precious Stones Dealer’s Licence (PSDL), issued by the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources (MMEWR), allows a company to export rough diamonds from Botswana. All Botswana based companies need to hold a valid PSDL prior to registering with ODC. For international companies who do not hold a valid PSDL, ODC will apply on their behalf once they participate in an auction.

Is there a fee for the PSDL and how long will the license be valid for?

Yes, the licence fee is $60 and the licence will be valid for a period of up to three years from the date of issue. ODC will invoice you separately for this when a licence is required to export purchases made from a particular sale.

Are there any additional costs/export duties related to buying form ODC?

Other than the cost of the Precious Stones Dealer’s Licence (PSDL) ($60 valid for up to three years from the date of issue), the Kimberley Certificate of each shipment ($60) and the cost of the shipping agent handling your purchases, there are no further costs or duties associated with exporting from Botswana.

Who do I contact if I have a question about the registration process?
